Citizen Participation
"Every single human being that walks this planet has the potential to make a positive contribution to public life. The challenge for all of us as citizens is to ensure that we create just, meaningful and relevant ways in which this contribution can be harnessed for the public good. Unless we put people, and particularly those that have been historically excluded, at the centre of public life, our development goals will continue to evade us."
Kumi Naidoo, Secretary General of CIVICUS: World Alliance for Citizen Participation
Our Work
- Researching the basis for enabling greater participation of individuduals, as citizens, consumers and investors, for example our research programme on What Assures Consumers to better understand what motivates and assures people to take action though their purchasing choices.
- Benchmarking partnership working – whether at national, programme or project level – demands smart monitoring and evaluation metrics. We are pioneering new forms of impact assessment, and working towards a national level index of accountability across all sectors.
- Convening an international program of dialogues between business, civil society and government, as a tool for change. AccountAbility 21 Dialogues: Leaders from all institutions come together to debate meaning, realise complementary interests, celebrate best practice and clarify roles and responsibilities, as a first step towards new forms of mutual accountability.
- Innovating accountability compacts to improve performance of multi-stakeholder partnerships and development programs. AccountAbility participated on the Dalberg-Clinton Task Force investigating Accountability Compacts. Download the report From Talk to Walk.
