RBPlat
Royal Bafokeng Platinum (RBPlat) makes key business achievements by implementing the Principle of Responsiveness.
Royal Bafokeng Platinum (RBPlat) is committed to achieving sustainable impact in its mining business by managing its impact on the environment, society, and economy of South Africa. RBPlat’s corporate mission – “to leave a lasting legacy of sustainable benefits for our stakeholders” – embraces the spirit of the AccountAbility Principles, which guide RBPlat’s actions and initiatives.
RBPlat has been using the AA1000 Series of Standards since 2008, and continues to use the AA1000 Assurance Standard to ensure that its integrated report remains aligned with the AccountAbility Principles. RBPlat has benefited from applying the Principles, finding:
- Adopting the AccountAbility Principles can help mitigate systemic risk in the mining industry
- Inclusive and Responsive community engagement proves good for the bottom line
Speaking to the business impact of applying the AccountAbility Principles, Ms. Tshegofatso Tyira, Head: Corporate Risk and Sustainability at Royal Bafokeng Platinum, shared:
“The AccountAbility Principles are of great value to us at RBPlat. Whilst we have started to develop targets to measure the impacts of our sustainability performance in the society in which we operate and our broader ecosystems, we are looking forward to further aligning to the new AA1000AP 2018, particularly the Principle of Impact, to enhance our overall sustainability reporting.”
